5 easy and fun ways to engage your team!
The pandemic has resulted in some of our team members working from home which in turn has caused a disconnect among team members.
Many organizations and team leaders are struggling with getting their teams re-engaged and re-committed. As we move from this new normal and begin functioning in a post pandemic world, it is important that you prioritize team engagement to bring back that sense of camaraderie, team spirit and focus and get everyone swimming in the same direction towards meeting and exceeding the business objectives.
Here are my top 5 fun ways to engage employees.
1. Create theme days.
Imagine periodically having days were the entire office wears an agreed colour, or their favorite, most outrageous or handmade hat to work. Or maybe it’s “wear your old school uniform to work” day, or even have each department put together a mini-talent show
2. Show appreciation for your team members
Sometimes we think that because our staff members are doing their job, we don’t need to make any special mention of the job they do. However, think about how they may feel when you do express appreciation for the work they do and why they and what they do matter? They feel more valued, they feel more committed, and they become more willing. Instead of simply thanking them for doing a good job, take it a step further by acknowleding exactly what they did and why is was important in the big picture.
3. Offer lunch and learn sessions.
Determine what skillsets and/or knowledge your team members are lacking. Whether it is to improve on the job they are currently doing, equip them with the tools to make a career move or any other ways they would like to grow and offer these in short bite size lunch and learn sessions.
4. Employ a mentor system.
Most organizations miss an opportunity during the on-boarding process to make great first and lasting impressions with new employees. Including a mentorship programme as a part of the on-boarding process where they spend time learning from a more experienced staff member either in the area they will be working or in another area to give them a broader perspective of the many ways the departments connect with each other. This way, you also aid in your team’s holistic development.
5. Consider a hybrid work environment.
Though things are slowly returning to the way things were, pre-pandemic, it might be worth considering a hybrid work environment going forward. This gives your employees the ability to chose, and you both get the opportunity to agree what works best for them and you.
I encourage you to try any or all of these and see how best they work for you and your team.
